Isolate the regime

To see Maryam Namazie's letter to the Evening Standard, click here.

The letter I submitted is below:

"Today, ‘elections’ are not the real issue at hand in Iran. Everyone knows that elections are neither fair nor free there. There are no basic political freedoms and right to organise. Candidates are selected by the Supreme Leader and unelected Guardian Council and are chosen from amongst pillars of the regime. Mousavi - now branded a ‘reformist’ - was prime minister during the 80s when thousands were executed.

Often with regards Iranian politics one must look below the surface to see what’s really going on. The infighting between the regime’s factions has intensified. Both sides refuse to back down for now but this has nothing to do with people’s lives.

The people of Iran have shown that they have their own demands; they want the Islamic regime to go. And it has to go. Thirty years of medievalism and brutality is enough. What this infighting has done and will continue to do is further provide the people of Iran with the opportunity to fight for real freedom and equality.

In all this, one thing is clear. There is a mass movement in Iran that is going to bring this regime to its knees and break the back of the political Islamic movement internationally. Now is the time for people in the west to exert pressure on western governments to politically isolate the regime rather than excuse and legitimise it. Like racial apartheid in the former South Africa, a regime of sexual apartheid must be proclaimed a crime against 21 century humanity.

Maryam Namazie is spokesperson of the Worker-communist Party of Iran.

  1. As a veteran of various anti-Iraq war protests here in the USA, I am humbled by the sheer courage and tenacity of the Iranian protesters! Though the cowardly basiji murdered Neda, they cannot smother the revolutionary instincts of the Iranian people! May Neda rest in peace. May her family find comfort and solace from the condolences coming from around the world. Long live Neda! Long Live Mossadegh!!! Margh bar Diktator!!! Margh bar Faqih!!! Margh bar Basiji!!

  2. As shown by the actions of the cleric thugs in Iran - fundementalist Islam is a
violent, repressive, malevolent socio-political system based on the lunatic
ravings, superstitions, and hallucinations of a violent, oppressive,
    malignant pedophile and pirate.

  3. With Sarkozy standing up to the subjugation of Muslim women, 'imams leaving Holland in droves' (replaced by whabbi ultra conservative clerics), provinces in Canada outlawing Sharia tribunals and women in Iran protesting Ahmadinejad's push for polygamy, it is time that the West held Islam to account! The UN 1948 Declaration of universal human rights and freedoms was signed by all Muslim states yet women remain 'in servitude' under Koran dictates. Islam itself is the enemy of women and the West. The cry from the Tehran roofs might be '... peace for Aisha!'

  4. BBC published a study today on UK Pakistanis attitude on the Taliban... What were they hoping to find with this loaded survey? Any who support the Taliban must be considered terrorist-sympathizers! There are enough Pakistanis plotting Islamic fundementalist sedition in the UK without raising this question! Best for the UK government to just 'profile' any males in the 15 to 40 age group who travel to/from Pakistan and grill them on madrassas attendance? Such attendance to qualify for an automatic 3 year probation with monthly reporting requirements on their 'activities.'

  5. Unbelievable by common sense standards, cleric Yasdi's assertion: " They are not our opponents," he said. "The judiciary should treat them like the opponents of God [moharebs]." is patent nonsense! The state is run by a fascist theocracy, like Nazism, dissenters are to be crushed - that the supreme ruler (sic) brings international scorn on Islam is a fact! Reminiscent of that other brilliant Islam tenet: apostasy - the best Islam can do is advocate 'killing in the name of god.' Only a bunch of absolute cretins would invoke capital punishment 'in the name of god.' Rag-head a well earned slur for this breed of miscreant!

  8. Could reason, not just blind obedience to Islam and its superstitions, finally become the way forward for this medieval ruling rabble? The notion that the UK or any Western democracy could affect the politics in this locked-down police state is just silly, evidence the West's influence during the Stalin era in the U.S.S.R.

  9. Interesting that Newsweek, June 29th edition, carries items on the absurdity of Iran's Theocracy AND 'Don't Blame the Caveman' a thinly veiled piece on the Neanderthal genes that drive human actions - a mirror to Islamic fundamentalism and its medieval treatment of women as dictated (sic) in the Koran.

  10. And from Saudi this week, hysteria around a 'genie': http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8145862.stm How can the West ever come to terms with the fundamental superstitions that Islam has been built upon? 'Reason' and trust in 'ones senses' is overruled as Muslims go to Sharia Court for rulings on a 'genie!' Absurd, patent nonsense and an affront to human intelligence and the rule of law.

  11. Sharia Law has no foundation in the Koran! On family disputes the Koran is specific that a arbitrator be sought and that the parties in dispute attend arbitration each with a relative in support - equality of the sexes is paramount in the Koran! Sharia was 'invented' by power seeking Islamists (politicizing Islam) - Islam has no political foundation, Islamists have corrupted the Koran teachings reducing women to child status (a male must speak for every female, marriage de facto sexual and household servitude). Islam has been corrupted by power seekers, hence the current East/West jihad! Its time for Islamists to embrace the 1948 UN Universal declaration of human rights and return to Koran/Islam, supporting national secular laws and statute. Sharia is an abomination and must not be permitted in the UK, or any secular state - 'One Law For All' is statute!

  12. Sad for Iran that a tin-pot crack-pot Islamist little prick rules the roost!

"In this recent election the enemy tried to bring the battlefront to the interior of this country," Ahmadinejad said.

"But I have told the enemies ... that this nation ... will strike you in the face so hard you will lose your way home," he said in comments translated by English-language Press TV.

He also voiced continued defiance in a row over Iran's disputed nuclear ambitions, saying major powers "will not be able to take away the smallest amount of Iran's rights."

When Iran gets the-bomb the West's prompt response will be on a par with the fire-bombing of Japan during WW2!

  14. Ahmadinejad's defence of Mashai, 'his brother in law': http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32081806/ns/world_news-mideastn_africa/

.... "One of virtues and glories God has bestowed to me in life was to get acquainted with this great, honest and pious man," Ahmadinejad said, according to the state news agency IRNA. "Some are questioning why am I so interested in Mr. Mashai and I respond that it is for a thousand reasons. One is that when one sits and talks with him, you feel you are talking to yourself, you feel no distance. His heart is clear like mirror....

.... Last year, the supreme leader rebuked Mashai, calling his Israel comments "illogical," but he also demanded that the flap over the comments be put the rest and expressed support for Ahmadinejad. Mashai remained in his position.
Mashai also angered many of Iran's top clerics in 2007 when he attended a ceremony in Turkey where women performed a traditional dance. Conservative interpretations of Islam prohibit women from dancing.

He ran into trouble again in 2008 when he hosted a ceremony in Tehran in which several women played tambourines and another one carried the Quran to a podium to recite verses from the Muslim holy book...."

And by Friday 'woman's rights promoter' Mashai was gone, by supreme leader decree - what is it that Ahmadinejad does not understand about his role as 'the Western-face puppet' of Iran?

  15. Hillary Clinton - US Secretary of State today:

"... But she stressed that pursuing intensive diplomacy with Iran was the best approach, a shift from the Bush administration which avoided engagement with Tehran and insisted that Tehran give up sensitive nuclear work first...."

And the reason that the West will not permit Iran to build a nuclear weapon? Islamic Fundamentalism! Islam has been corrupted by Islamists, your 'exalted' supreme leader is a whacko dictator, and the only way the West deals with dictators, ultimately, is elimination! Iran's theocracy is headed for oblivion! And it will rally have nothing to do with Israel - Israel is similarly headed up by a bunch of fascists, however, the West can-talk to Israel's cretins!

Another analysis has it that conservatives are worried about Mr Mashaie's links with the controversial sect the Hojjatieh, members of which believe in the imminent return of the so-called hidden imam, the Mahdi, in an apocalyptic scenario...."

A Genie to be tried in Saudi under Sharia Law, Mahdi looming large in this backward state and Armageddon the clarion cry of US evangelicals - all of these religious whackos need to get a life! Their impact on their respective societies is an affront to simple intelligence and is of criminal proportions!

  17. What was instructive here: http://umanitoba.ca/cm/vol13/no21/shariaincanada.html was ultimately that Islam/Sharia abuses women and children's fundamental human rights and freedoms - at hearings, a litany of abuse was articulated - 'women don't wear the veil for nothing' a popular complaint. Islam has become a macho-centric boy's club, the Koran teachings corrupted to suit the ignorant-male-brute view of how things should be - in terms of human rights, Islam is an abomination, and Sharia will not stand in Western democracy as theocracy/superstition has no foundation in logic and reasoned human discourse. Best to adopt secularity sooner than later and render religion to its proper place - a take it or leave it 'belief' construct! The melt-down of US Republican religious conservatism is illustrative of how facile politicized-religion is as a working ruling model.

  18. Israel is on the move militarily: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8154141.stm which means the US will be pulled into any conflict with Iran! Best that Iran just get rid of its clerics/theocratic nonsense, and stop agitating by supplying military materiel to Hamas, so that saner heads can reverse the international farce that is Iran's politics to get the country aligned with UN resolutions that support Palestinians (sans Hamas) - as in Nigeria this week, beheading Islamist groups is going to be the West's primary focus going forward - Islam/Sharia 16th century Neanderthal human rights (women in Burkas on the beach in Gaza this week) are just a sad joke portraying Muslim women as sexual/domestic servants of pathetically ignorent men in the globalization era!

The problem with Islam - Islamist governments see themselves as inspired by god, hence the head IS god and his minions inspired by god's directive! This is patent bullshit (Papal & 16th century King's divine-right prior examples) - nonsense that the West outgrew after the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition resulting in 'rule of law' and strict secularism to ensure individual human rights, first. Ignorant, manipulative, criminal Islamists endow themselves with god-given divinity in order to control a public steeped in religious superstition (Islam) - better no god than fascism cloaked with god's sanction by criminals whose motivations approximate genocide! Its almost over for Islamist thought on this planet! Clearly the West is at-War with radical Islam - the next steps are to declare war on jihadist sympathizers wherever they hide in the West and incarcerate them 'for the duration', as the US did with Japanese nationals during WW2. The West's borders must be closed firmly against Islamist emigration to stop the spread of jihad venom to Western Muslim enclaves - enclaves established by those who fled fundemental Islam in the first place as their IQ above the vermin (clerics) masquerading as god's messengers throughout Islam's medieval nations.

".. But authorities insist their legal proceedings are completely legitimate and conform to international standards of justice." By what International standard of justice will Sharia Law EVER measure up? Sharia Law is an abomination, and so male-biased that women and children's human-rights are totally non-existent!
